The beautiful Mnemba Island is 3km off the north-east tip of Zanzibar, surrounded by several miles of vast coral reef.
In our opinion, the most beautiful snorkeling spot in Zanzibar, where you can spot Moorish idols, blue tang and clownfish easily in just a couple of metres of water, above the colorful, well-preserved reef. You will reach Mnemba Island by boat from Nungwi beach. If you are coming from Stonetown, it’s a 1h30minute drive.
Enjoy a half hour boat trip from Nungwi to your snorkeling spot. Mnemba Island is a privately owned island with access restricted to guests of the luxurious hotel there. Our tour guides will drop you off directly at the reef, where you dismount from the boat. The tour guides will head to the beach which lies a few hundred yards from the small island whilst they prepare your fresh fish lunch.
Keep your eyes peeled for blue starfish and red-knobbed starfish. Occasionally, green turtles can be spotted here, since they swim up to the island’s shoreline to lay their eggs at certain times of year.
Please allow a half-day for this tour, departing in the morning and returning to Nungwi after you finish enjoying lunch on the beach. This is a group tour on a boat with other holiday makers. After a half hour boat ride, the boat will anchor a short distance from Mnemba Island along the coral reef- a perfect spot to disembark and enjoy some snorkeling. After enjoying the beautiful waters you will head over to the beach where you will find a fresh lunch that has been prepared for you. Enjoy some local delicacies and some rest as you dry off in the sunshine. When you are ready, the group will head back onto the boat to be transferred back to the beach in Nungwi.
We recommend you bring an additional large bottle water to keep well hydrated, sun hat, sun cream, t-shirt and towel.
We are a family run, locally registered and fully licensed tour company that organizes safaris and tours throughout Tanzania and Zanzibar.
