Duration: Half Day

Spice Tour

Overview

Also known as the Spice Island, Zanzibar was once a top producer of cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and black pepper. The perfect day trip, get ready for your ‘one day wonder’ as you experience the beauty of Tanzania’s wildlife.

On our half-day immersive tour, one of our local guides will take you on a sensory stroll through historic spice farms famous for organic wild herbs, flora and fauna. Stop along the way to smell and taste tropical fruits and spices like coconuts, nutmeg, lemongrass, and jackfruit, as well as diving into the rich history of the local spice trade.

Our guides will give you their expert insight and love to share their knowledge, like the many medicinal and local uses of Zanzibar’s spices. At the end of your tour you can enjoy sampling some more fresh organic fruits alongside delicious spiced tea in the lush shade of the spice farm. You will then have the opportunity to purchase some freshly packed local spices, so do bring along some spending money!

What to expect

To begin your tour, our English speaking driver will collect you in a private vehicle from your hotel in Stone Town. After a short drive to the spice farms, you will be met by one of our trusted tour guides who will lead  you on through the tour, ending with some delicious fruit tasting. We supply bottled water but recommend you bring extra to keep well hydrated.

Our tours have a 10am departure from Stone town to avoid the hottest part of the day. Please allow a half-day for this tour, heading back to Stone town in time for lunch. If you'd like to begin your tour from somewhere else on the island or at a different time of day, we can arrange that all for you. Just let us know the details and we can confirm the price and logistics for your bespoke pick up. You will need to wear good walking shoes and bring along a hat, sun cream, and some cash if you wish to purchase spices at the end of your tour.
