Tanzania is home to some of the world’s most iconic mountains, offering thrilling and rewarding climbing experiences. Whether you’re a seasoned mountaineer or a first-time climber, the peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru promise unforgettable adventure and challenge.
With Ngotea Distinctive Safaris, you’ll trek under the guidance of expert local crews while supporting ethical and sustainable tourism. We proudly collaborate with the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP) to ensure fair treatment and working conditions for all porters.
At 5,895 meters (19,341 feet), Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa and a true bucket-list destination. This dormant volcano invites climbers to ascend through a spectacular range of ecosystems—from lush rainforest to alpine desert—culminating at the snow-capped Uhuru Peak.
We offer several carefully selected routes, each suited to different fitness levels and preferences:
Machame Route – Scenic and popular with good acclimatization profile
Lemosho Route – Remote and panoramic, ideal for nature lovers
Rongai Route via Gilman’s Point (7 Days) – A quieter, off-the-beaten-track option approaching from the north
Luxury and VIP Climbs are also available through our trusted partner Summits Africa, offering elevated comfort and service on select routes.
Mount Meru is Tanzania’s second-highest peak at 4,566 meters (14,980 ft) and the fifth-highest in Africa. Located in Arusha National Park, this lesser-known trek offers a more intimate and wildlife-rich experience. You’ll pass through dense forests teeming with buffalo, giraffes, and monkeys before reaching the dramatic crater and summit ridge with views of Kilimanjaro.
We offer:
3-day and 4-day private Mount Meru climbs
A great option for acclimatization before Kilimanjaro
Rugged trails, scenic vistas, and fewer crowds
Depending on the standard of your climb, we work with different levels of guides—all of whom are best in class, well-trained in safety, and passionate about wildlife, conservation, and guest care.
Unless otherwise specified, all climbs are fully private—you, your family, or small group (up to 6 people) will have your own dedicated guide and crew, ensuring personalized attention and flexibility.
We provide three service levels for every mountain program:
Standard – Quality gear and hearty meals
Luxury – Upgraded tents, added comfort, and curated menus
VIP – Premium camping, full-service support, and top-tier amenities via Summits Africa
The number of porters and crew assigned to your trek depends on your group size and chosen service level, ensuring a well-supported and efficient expedition.
Tanzania’s mountains are ecological marvels. From lush montane forests and moorlands to volcanic alpine deserts and glacier fields, every route provides rich biodiversity and changing landscapes.
We understand that every traveler is different. Our flexible itineraries can be tailored to your pace and interests—whether you want to focus on reaching the summit, taking photos, or observing unique flora and fauna.
We are committed members of the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP). By booking with us, you’re helping ensure porters are fairly paid, properly equipped, and treated with respect and dignity.
This partnership reflects our commitment to ethical tourism and our role in supporting the local communities that make these adventures possible.
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro or Mount Meru is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and at Ngotea Distinctive Safaris, we make it safe, ethical, and truly unforgettable.
Let us help you reach the summit—in comfort, with care, and with purpose.
