Tanzania is home to two of Africa’s most iconic peaks — Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru — offering adventurous travelers the chance to undertake scenic, challenging, and deeply rewarding mountain treks. Whether you’re an experienced high-altitude climber or a first-time hiker, these legendary climbs promise awe-inspiring landscapes, physical achievement, and unforgettable memories.
At Ngotea Distinctive Safaris, we craft ethical, well-supported, and fully personalized mountain expeditions. As proud partners of the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP), we ensure fair treatment of porters, safe working conditions, and sustainable trekking practices — so your climb leaves a positive impact.
Rising to 5,895 meters (19,341 feet), Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s tallest mountain and the highest free-standing peak in the world. Climbers ascend through five ecological zones, from lush rainforests to alpine deserts and glaciated summit slopes — a journey of unmatched natural beauty.
We offer only the best, time-tested routes that balance acclimatization, safety, and scenery:
Machame Route – Our most popular route. Excellent acclimatization, varied scenery, and a rewarding challenge. Ideal for trekkers with a moderate fitness level seeking panoramic views.
Lemosho Route – A longer, scenic approach from the west with lower foot traffic and superb acclimatization. Perfect for those who prefer a wilderness feel and higher summit success rates.
Rongai Route – Approaching from the northern side, Rongai is quieter and off the beaten track. A great alternative for those seeking solitude — though not offered during the rainy season.
Marangu Route – Offered on request only. While it is the only route with hut accommodations, we do not generally recommend it due to heavy traffic and limited acclimatization opportunities.
Northern Circuit – Although this 9-day route offers excellent acclimatization and a high success rate, it is time-intensive and less scenic compared to routes like Lemosho or Machame. For most travelers, we find it less ideal in terms of overall experience and logistics.
Western Breach – We do not offer this route due to serious safety risks, including frequent rockfalls and glacial retreat. Since May 2025, Kilimanjaro National Park authorities have officially closed the Western Breach route for safety reasons.
For those looking for added comfort and exclusivity, we offer Luxury and VIP Kilimanjaro climbs in collaboration with Summits Africa. These packages include:
Enhanced camping gear and private tents with extra space
Personalized service with professional chefs and private toilets
Premium support teams and logistics coordination
At 4,566 meters (14,980 feet), Mount Meru is Tanzania’s second-highest peak — a volcanic giant offering a spectacular trek through lush montane forest, crater walls, and sweeping ridgelines. Located inside Arusha National Park, it’s a perfect standalone climb or an ideal acclimatization trek before Kilimanjaro.
Private 3-day or 4-day treks led by local guides
Rich wildlife sightings (giraffes, buffaloes, monkeys) on foot
Breathtaking sunrise views of Kilimanjaro from the summit
Quieter trails and more intimate trekking experience
Note: Camping is not permitted on the mountain — overnight stays are in established mountain huts (Miriakamba and Saddle Hut).
Our certified mountain guides are experienced, safety-conscious, and passionate about Tanzania’s peaks and natural environment.
All climbs are organized as private expeditions unless otherwise requested — perfect for couples, families, or small groups (up to 6 climbers).
Choose the level of comfort that suits your preferences:

Fair pay, proper gear, and ethical working conditions
Transparent treatment of all crew members
