Tanzania is home to two of Africa’s most iconic peaks—Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru—offering climbers of all levels the opportunity to embark on thrilling, scenic, and soul-stirring trekking adventures. Whether you’re a seasoned high-altitude hiker or a first-time summiteer, these legendary mountains promise challenge, reward, and awe-inspiring beauty.
At Ngotea Distinctive Safaris, we specialize in ethical, well-supported, and personalized mountain treks. Partnering with the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP), we ensure all our expeditions uphold fair porter treatment and responsible tourism standards, so your climb has a positive impact beyond the summit.
Rising 5,895 meters (19,341 feet), Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa and one of the world’s most iconic trekking destinations. This dormant volcano offers a dramatic journey through five ecological zones—from dense rainforest to alpine desert—culminating in the snow-dusted summit of Uhuru Peak.
At Ngotea Distinctive Safaris, we offer a curated selection of Kilimanjaro routes based on safety, scenery, acclimatization success, and guest experience:
Machame Route – Our most popular option, known for its excellent acclimatization profile and stunning scenery. Ideal for trekkers seeking both challenge and panoramic landscapes.
Lemosho Route – A longer, scenic approach from the west with lower traffic. Offers a great balance of wilderness, wildlife, and summit success.
Rongai Route – Approaches from the northern side of the mountain. Quieter and drier, this route is perfect for off-the-beaten-path adventurers and is ideal during rainy seasons.
Northern Circuit – While it boasts a high summit success rate, we do not offer the Northern Circuit as it requires a minimum of 9 days, making it a significant time and cost commitment for most travelers. Additionally, it lacks the dramatic scenery found on routes like Machame or Lemosho.
Western Breach – This route is not recommended or offered due to serious safety concerns, including rockfall hazards and glacial retreat. As of May 2025, the park authorities have officially closed this route to climbers due to ongoing risks.
For guests seeking enhanced comfort and exclusive service, we offer Luxury and VIP climbs in partnership with Summits Africa. These expeditions include upgraded camping equipment, professional chefs, private toilets, and personalized services throughout the trek.
Standing at 4,566 meters (14,980 feet), Mount Meru is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania and the fifth-highest in Africa. Located within Arusha National Park, this striking volcanic peak offers a rewarding climb through wildlife-rich forests and dramatic crater ridges.
Highlights of a Mount Meru climb:
3-day and 4-day private treks, perfect for acclimatization before Kilimanjaro
Spot buffalo, giraffes, monkeys, and more as you hike through untouched landscapes
Stunning sunrise summit views across to Kilimanjaro
Fewer crowds and a quieter, more intimate mountain experience
Our professional guides are safety-certified, knowledgeable, and passionate about Tanzania’s mountains and ecosystems. Based on your chosen package, you’ll be paired with guides who specialize in your trek style—whether standard or VIP.
All climbs are operated as private expeditions unless otherwise requested. Travel with your family, friends, or small group (up to 6 climbers) and enjoy dedicated support, attention, and flexibility.
